The 25th Meeting of FFTC Technical Advisory Committee (TAC)

Rationale

The FFTC’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is composed of 11 leading agricultural scientists/experts in the ASPAC region. In the FFTC-TAC meeting, these experts perform the following roles during the meeting, which is held once every two years: 1) review and provide advice on FFTC’s policy, program, and themes in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of FFTC’s working programs and activities; 2) deliberate on the priorities of agricultural needs and requirements of countries in the region; and 3) recommend the suitable directions and strategies to improve the performance and effectiveness of the Center’s operation. The FFTC 2019-2020 strategic action plan was approved in 2018, and it served as the scheme for FFTC’s annual activities in 2019 and 2020. It was suggested, in the 24th TAC meeting, that the strategic action plan should be revised and made into a 4-year rolling plan to fit with the dynamic technology movements. The themes of the strategic action plan will serve as a basis for charting the center’s two-year annual activities. The 25th TAC meeting is going to be scheduled for July 21, 2020.

Objectives

  • To review the 2021-2024 FFTC Strategic Action Plan.
  • To evaluate the Center’s activities undertaken in the past two years.
  • To give advice on the Center’s future activities that address common agriculture and food issues in the Asian and Pacific region; and
  • To suggest potential partners for broader impact activities.

Major Activities

The FFTC management will present the programs and activities of the Center for the past two years, and how it is aligned to its Strategic Action Plan. The FFTC Director and Deputy Director presented the proposed direction for the center and seek the advice of the TAC members regarding how to chart directions for the Center and elicit feedbacks and suggestions.
