True to its mandate, FFTC has evolved into a viable and reliable knowledge platform for agricultural technological and policy information for the Asian and Pacific Region. And such evolution was founded on FFTC’s core belief that knowledge drives the economic dynamism of the region.
I was privileged as I was humbled by FFTC’s invitations on multiple occasions to be part of this knowledge platform by serving as resource speakers in FFTC-sponsored international conferences and workshops on agricultural policy, agricultural marketing and trade liberalization, revitalization of rural communities, and socio-economics of the banana Fusarium disease. I also served as the Philippine focal person for its Agricultural Policy Information Project.
These conferences, workshops and seminars had a noble purpose, and that was to serve as venues for information sharing and cross fertilization of ideas about the region’s agriculture. For me personally, my participation redounded to one invaluable co-benefit – honing my analytical ability, writing proficiency and presentation skills. My journey as an agricultural economist continues, but I am proud to say that FFTC enabled my maiden steps.
To FFTC, my deepest gratitude for the opportunity. Congratulations on FFTC’s 50th Anniversary. And here’s wishing FFTC another 50 years of fostering multi-lateral collaborations on agriculture in the Asian and Pacific Region.
