On this important and charming day of FFTC’s 50th anniversary, I wish to express my heartiest congratulations to FFTC, including the staff and management of the Center and all the people who have been associated with and part of FFTC. I feel very honored and proud to have been a part of this international organization, and I wish nothing for my former colleagues and country partners but continued success and more happy and productive years ahead.
I have worked in FFTC as a Director from February 1, 2017 till January 31, 2020. This is a wonderful three-year endeavor for me after my retirement from the National Taiwan University. Before that I have taught in the Universities, National University of Singapore and National Taiwan University, for 34 years and was Vice Minister of Agriculture for two years in Taiwan. I feel honored to have this opportunity to work in FFTC. After I fully understand the past history of FFTC and worked closely with our colleagues and partners I formed a clear vision to make FFTC an effective international organization to help and promote sustainable agricultural and rural development in the Asian and Pacific Region. As the months rolled on, we are glad to observe a more effective and visible Center. We are thankful and owe this very much to the support of our member countries, Executive Board, Technical Advisory Committee and Working Group members. In addition to effectively working together with our partners, we forged friendships and built networks along the way. I am glad to have this opportunity to meet the leaders and representatives of the Center’s partner agencies and organizations. In the process, particularly in our travels and interacting with the agricultural officials and experts of our country partners, we became good friends. Together we formulated and carried out our jointly formed projects. We treasure our friendship and fellowship. I will keep this great experience and wonderful memory in my heart.
With the help of my colleagues, we were able to increase the visibility of the Center and improve on the quality of our workshops, seminars, trainings, websites, publications, etc. We have also strengthened our network and revived our partnerships with our other country representatives like Indonesia and Australia.
I am very happy that under a new management, FFTC will continue our projects as we have planned and envisioned it. Now that we are celebrating the Center’s 50th year, we look back with much gratitude to all the people who have been involved in its activities and operations for many years. I truly salute your commitment and dedicated service toward the attainment of our goal—to uplift the lives of our Asian farmers and contribute to the creation of a more sustainable agriculture in the Asian and Pacific Region.
Here’s a toast to many more happy years and journeys ahead!
