- Director Lin leads mission trip to Indonesia
Ten to 20 years ago, FFTC had regular tie-ups with Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture and other agricultural agencies in the conduct of its workshops and seminars. Because of constant changes in management, the Center’s partnership with Indonesia has waned. Through the efforts of FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin, the work to strengthen ties with Indonesian partners were again revived.

Last November 17-20, Director Lin, together with Deputy Director Akira Hasebe, Information Officer Ronald Mangubat and Secretary Ms. Chia Chuan Chang went to Jakarta and Bogor to strengthen linkages and re-connect with Indonesian partners, invite the Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (IAARD) to become a country partner of the Center, pay courtesy calls to IAARD, Ministry of Agriculture’s Bureau of International Cooperation, IPB University in Bogor, the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia, and meet with Dr. Tahlim Sudaryanto, the contracted partner for the Agricultural Policy (AP) Platform in Indonesia.

In IAARD, Dr. Lin and his colleagues met Director General Dr. Fadjry Djufry, and discussed possible areas of collaboration in the future especially in capacity building and information exchange. The delegation also met Mr. Hariwan Puja Wilapa, Deputy Director of Indonesia’s Bureau of International Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture and Mr. Widyanto Sortajan, Head of Asia and Pacific Sub Division. The meeting officially explored the strengthening of ties between the Center and Indonesia.
FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin meets Dr. Tahlim Sudaryanto, Senior Agriculture Economist, Indonesian Center for Agriculture, Socio-Economic and Policy Studies (ICASEPS) in Bogor, Indonesia. For many years now, Dr. Sudaryanto has been writing and continues to write agriculture policy articles in the FFTC Agricultural Policy (FFTC-AP) website focusing on the agri policies of Indonesia.
On the other hand, in Bogor, the delegation met Prof. Dir. Arif Satria, Rector of IPB University, together with Prof Iskandar Z Siregar, Director, International Program, and Dr. Ir Suwardi MAgr, Dean. The organization leaders talked about reviving the joint activities such as co-organizing workshops and seminars and sharing information on agricultural technologies. Established in 1963, IPB University is the biggest and most well-known agricultural university in Indonesia.
On December 12, Mr. John C. Chen, Representative, Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) paid a courtesy call to FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin and Deputy Director Dr. Akira Hasebe. It was through TETO that the Center’s official visits to Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (IAARD) and IPB University were smoothly carried.
In Bogor, Director Lin also met Professor Tahlim Sudaryanto, Senior Agricultural Economist, Indonesian Center for Agricultural Socioeconomic and Policy Studies at the IZPB Botanical Gardens. Dr. Sudaryanto has been a contract partner writing and contributing agricultural policy articles for the FFTC-Agricultural Policy platform. The two agriculture economists discuss how to further improve cooperation between their two organizations
Lastly, the FFTC delegation paid a courtesy call to Mr. John C. Chen, Representative, Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) It was through TETO that the Center’s official visits to IAARD and IPB University were smoothly carried out. Thanks to Ambassador Chen and to his very efficient staff, headed by Director Hwang, Jiun-Shen, Director William H.L. Fan and Secretary Ricky YM Yeh.
