The third organizing committee meeting of the 2020 Dragon Fruit Workshop
The 3rd Organizing Committee Meeting of the “2020 Dragon Fruit Workshop and Steering Committee Meeting: Value Chain for Global Markets” was conducted online on 19 June 2020 at the facility and venue kindly offered by BAPHIQ, COA in Taipei. Dragon Fruit Research Network (DFNet) partners from TARI and its Fengshan Tropical Horticultural Experimental Branch of Taiwan, Cavite State University of the Philippines, University of Hawaii of the US, Creative House Corporation in Japan, International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet) under FAO, and New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research participated in the meeting. All participants agreed on the workshop dates (22-23 September, 2020) and supported the themes and topics. The information to be gathered from the workshop / steering committee meeting will be the foundation for developing the project’s next phase.

The second preparatory meeting of the international symposium on circular agriculture
On June 8, FFTC and the Livestock Research Institute (TLRI) held the second preparatory meeting of the international symposium on "The Practice and Benefits of Circular Agriculture in Waste Reducing and Recycling" at the Council of Agriculture in Taipei. Representatives from the Department of Science and Technology, COA, the Department of International Affairs, COA, Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute, Taiwan Forestry Research Institute, Fisheries Research Institute, Hualien District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, Pingtung Agricultural Biotechnology Park, Agricultural Technology Research Institute, and Taiwan Institute of Economic Research also participated in the meeting. A major resolution was made at the meeting to cope with the COVID-19 restrictions on international experts coming to Taiwan, and the Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI) expressed its intention to invite its members to participate in November at their own expense. The symposium will be extended to November 5-6, and will be held back to back with the Asia Agri-Tech Expo & Forum at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.

FFTC Director Dr. Su-San Chang, Deputy Director Dr. Akira Hasebe and Associate Researcher Mr. Kun-Chang Tsai visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Republic of China (Taiwan). There they met MOFA officials led by Director-General, Department of International Organizations, Mr. Bob L. J. Chen, Section Chief, APEC Section Ms. Aurora Wanmei Tsai and Senior Desk Officer, Agriculture, Fisheries and Economic Organizations Section, Mr. Michael Yen-Kai Chen. At the beginning of the meeting Director Chang expressed the Center's sincere apperception to  MOFA, ROC for supporting the Project on “Enhancing Collaborative Research Network of the Value Chain and Control of Diseases in Southeast and South Asia’ and made progress update on the project. This is a 3-year project and it is in its final year. The Center is currently formulating a proposal for the next phrase and seeking for MOFA’s continued support. The Director-General Mr Chen said he is very impressed by the work that FFTC has been doing. The MOFA is very proud to be a part of the Center's many projects.

FFTC visits BAPHIQ
FFTC Director Dr. Su-san Chang and Deputy Director Dr. Akira Hasebe visit the Council of Agriculture’s Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) main headquarters in Taipei. There they meet BAPHIQ officials led by the Director General Dr. Wen-Jane Tu, Deputy Director General Dr. Hui-Chuan Chou, and Director for Planning Division’s Dr. Woan-Ru Lee. The FFTC and BAPHIQ officials discuss the current animal and plant health quarantine issues especially in the light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other possible joint projects and collaboration in the future.

The first Organizing Committee Meeting of the 2020 Dragon Fruit Workshop
FFTC Director Dr. Su-San Chang leads the first Organizing Committee Meeting of the 2020 Dragon Fruit Workshop and Steering Committee Meeting via teleconference. The online meeting is co-chaired by Dr. Hsueh-Shih Lin, Director General of Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute. Other attendees who participated in the meeting are Dr. Wen-Li Lee, Director of Fengshan Tropical Horticulture Experiment Branch, Dr. Yushin Chen, Head of Crop Improvement Division of the Taichung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, and Plant Nutritionist Dr. Ray-Yu Yang. Other attendees from FFTC include Deputy Director Dr. Akira Hasebe, Associate Researcher Mr. Kunchang Tsai, Information Officer Mr. Ronald Mangubat, Senior Secretary Ms. Chia-Chuan Chang and Administrative Assistant Ms. Kimberly Chen. The meeting basically discusses the ongoing preparations for the upcoming dragon fruit workshop scheduled this coming September.
