MARDI and FFTC’s August Workshop to tackle healthy soil-plant interactions

The Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and FFTC are jointly organizing an online workshop on August 22 that will highlight the synergistic interactions between soil and plants and how they contribute to agriculture resilienceEntitled “Role of Healthy Soil-Plant Interactions towards Achieving Resilient Agriculture in the Asian and Pacific Region,” the said workshop prioritizes one of the five themes of FFTC’s Strategic Action Plan for 2021-2024 on promoting climate-smart agriculture and green technologies. The semi-hybrid workshop, which will be part of the 15th ESAFS International Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, also aims to foster advanced technologies through research and development which could help strengthen resilience to natural disaster and support agro-diversity in Asian and Pacific agriculture.

The one-day online workshop will gather 11 soil scientists from 8 countries (Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam) who will be sharing their knowledge and experiences on the current state of soil and plant healthy interactions towards achieving resilient agriculture and the latest technologies on soil-plant management.

The workshop will be divided into six sessions: 1) the opening ceremony; 2) keynote session; 3) practical management to improve soil-plant interactions for agricultural productivity; 4) advances in soil-plant management to boost productivity, sustainability and resilience in agriculture; 5) general discussion on future challenges and R&D directions, contributions to zero carbon emissions, policy support to sound field practices, recommendations and conclusions; and 6) closing ceremony.
