FFTC’s five Executive Board members who attended the Center’s 105th Board Meeting last December 9, approved 11 project proposals, including one special project for 2021. FFTC Director Dr. Su-San Chang, who presented FFTC’s main accomplishments and performance for the year, discussed the 11 project proposals for 2021, which included 8 online and onsite workshops, a symposium for the Center’s 50th Anniversary, the continuation of the FFTC Agricultural Policy Platform, and the Dragon Fruit Project. The topics of the workshops for next year includes agricultural sensors technology and smart supply chain, digital agricultural transformation, digital bio-economy and the role of E-commerce and IoT, agricultural extension modalities, innovation and application of animal vaccines and feed additives for antibiotics-free era, breeding, cultivation and processing of sweet potato, and data interpretation and fertilization recommendation as part of the Center’s PT testing of soil and plant analysis.
All 11 projects and the special project are aligned to the recently approved FFTC’s Strategic Action Plan (SAP) for 2021-2024. These projects were also recently approved for endorsement by the FFTC Working Group in a meeting held last November 11.
For the first time in FFTC’s Executive Board meeting history, Dr. Masa Iwanaga, President of the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS), and Chairman of FFTC’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) joined the meeting as an online observer. As Chairman of TAC, Dr. Iwanaga said he is very pleased that the system which they recommended is already working very well and that the themes of the Center’s future activities that came out are very timely and relevant.
Mr. Angelito Banayo, Representative of the Philippines’ Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) is this year’s Acting Chairman of the Executive Board. Other EB members present during the meeting include Mr. Vincent Lin, DG of COA’s International Department (representing COA Minister Chi-Chung Chen), Mr. Mitsuaki Hoshino, Chief Deputy Representative, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Mr. Soon-Chang Hong, Deputy Representative, Korean Mission in Taipei, and Mr. Nguyen Anh Dong, Representative, Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office. Other observers and guests present during the meeting are: Mr. Noboyuki Shikasho of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Office, Ms. Irene Joan Tan of MECO, Mr. Albert T.K. Wen and Mr. Chun-I Liu of the COA and Mr. Hong-Manh Vo of Vietnam.
