The Food and Fertilizer Technology Center (FFTC) for the Asian and Pacific Region’s management is already in the thick of preparations for the celebration of its 50th anniversary. Coinciding with the big event is the holding of the Center’s 25th meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), and a 50th Anniversary Ceremony and Memorial Symposium. An educational tour is also being arranged for farm visits.
TAC is made up of 12 distinguished agricultural scientists and officers in the region and serves to provide advices to the Center. The Committee, which meets every two years, will convene on April 21 at the Howard Hotel Resorts Suites, Taipei. On the other hand, the 50th Anniversary Ceremony and Symposium which will convene on April 22 at the National Taiwan University (NTU) Hospital International Convention Center, have as its overall theme “Making Agro-Food Systems Sustainable” with Dr. Kazuo Kyuma, the President of National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), Japan and Dr. Marco Wopereis, the Director General of the World Vegetable Center, as its keynote speakers. There will also be three sessions under the themes: 1) "Focus on Sustainable Agro-Food Systems; 2) “Nourishing Asia’s Growing Population” and 3) an agricultural policy forum with the theme “Moving Towards Sustainable Agro-Food Systems.”
Hundreds of guests from all over the region are expected to grace FFTC’s 50th anniversary celebration. Invited guests are from the Center’s stakeholders and partner countries and agencies, former speakers, staff and friends.
Founded in 1970, FFTC is an international organization and information center which aims to promote sustainable agricultural and rural development to improve the welfare and income of farmers. Based in Taiwan, FFTC collects policy and technology information through the conduct of seminars, workshops and training courses and soliciting agricultural policy articles. It then packages the collected information and disseminates this through various forms of media like annual report, e-publications, the Center’s website, Facebook and other forms of social media.
