International Symposium on Smart Agriculture for Environmentally and Consumer Friendly Food Production

Stable production and supply of food crops are utmost important to provide people good nutrition and health. Food crop production includes the process from field cultivation, harvesting, processing, marketing, and table consumption. Food safety probably is the most important issue for consumers. This proposal is aimed to recruit experts from Asia-Pacific countries to address the key issues of crop production from the field to table use, emphasizing consumers’ demands in the depth case report by different countries. The next topic to be covered is the use of smart technologies in agriculture applications to help increase production efficiency and decrease agricultural management risks. Finally the decreased use of chemical pesticides to maintain food security and increase food safety will be emphasized by introducing inspection and certification of agricultural products, biological control strategies, and the new concept of plant doctors to help farmers for efficient and safer pest control measures.

•Understand consumer's demand in different countries so to adjust the direction of crop production
•To share experiences in development of novel crop cultivars adapting to diverse environment and low input of energy for friendly agricultural production
•Exchanging ideas and practices on the use of smart agriculture technology and biocontrol strategy
•To emphasize certification and traceable agriculture production for food safety issues

3.Major findings, recommendations and conclusion

•Disseminate information on the four possible ways of increasing farmer’s income-improving yields, achieving higher quality of agricultural products, using land efficiently, and promoting value-added activities.
•Consider each country’s need while planning the new activities. Every country has different focus for Smart Agriculture due to different natural resource endowment and different stages of development. Southeast Asian countries focus on Precision Agriculture, while Northeast Asia focuses on GAPs and overall social and ecological sustainability.
•Promote organic or GAP needs to change in the code of conduct to make significant and more comprehensive progress.
•Ensure food safety by following with GAPs or organic food production regulations as these are parts of the governments’ responsibilities.
•Implement food and agricultural education, which demand-oriented research. Consumers play an important role in this process and this can drive the establishment of a sustainable food system.
•Focus on farmer’s education and smart agriculture aside from its technology aspect.
•Consider to include not only the research and development of new or modern technology but also smart decision making, smart policy, smart use, and smart consumer in smart agriculture system, because even in the same country, small farms will adopt technology differently from large farms and they have to make decisions on how to maximize profits by smartly using available technologies.
